But it's NOT unmanageable. Yes, Project 3 is extremely tedious and does take 20-30 hours to complete, but we get two weeks to do it. If you plan properly, you'll be fine. Smallberg was actually lenient this quarter and gave a relatively easy Project 4, and yet people still love to complain. Honestly I don't get all the hate Smallberg gets.

Smallberg is a great professor. He's been teaching CS 32 for years and knows C++ as well as any professor knows anything. He's very clear as an instructor and is helpful in office hours. The projects take a lot of time but they're also interesting to do and you learn from doing them and they are clear in what is required. Tests are fair.

Smallberg's project specs remain clear, specific, and easy to understand, which is always great. However, the projects this quarter take FAR more time than CS31's! Prepare to spend at least 20 hours a week working on Projects 3 and 4, and make this your primary class of the quarter to get good scores on the projects.

Submitted June 30, 2020 Grade Received: A-. Professor Smallberg is a great professor. Despite teaching both CS31 and CS32, he gets back to us early in terms of project or homework scores and emails. The homeworks are not bad at all, and the projects are manageable. Project 3 definitely takes a long time, so START EARLY.

2. level 1. texasconsult. · 6y. Zero prior knowledge, however, all of the CS majors seem to take it in the fall, and they tend to have some aptitude at coding. And since classes are graded on a curve, it may be good to consider taking the winter quarter CS31 class with less CS majors. 1. level 1.
