The grounds are well kept. The red sandstone walls of the old castle are worth exploring. There are two WWII guns just outside the entrance and a huge crossbow just inside. The castle was acquired by the Corporation of Shrewsbury through the generosity of the Shropshire Horticultural Society and was formally opened on 21 January 1926.
