In any big city like Sevilla or Madrid, or even in small towns, it just gives you time to commute home, cook and have lunch, clear up and back to work. Downside is that most offices/shops are then open till 7:30-8:00 pm, so no 9-5 office hours.

Whether it is called 'siesta' or not the fact is that from around 2pm until 5 pm (core time) small shops and even some large one will close so that owners can retire to homes and take lunch and possibly and only possibly have a nap of sorts especially in the heat of high summer. Let's call it an extended power nap !

Typical working hours in Spain start as late as 9 or 10 am and end somewhere between 8 and 10 pm. Most of the shops close by 9, whereas restaurants and cafes work up to 3 am. Clubs usually open around 11 pm and work till early morning. Between morning and evening, there is almost always a siesta break.
