Oct 16, 2014 · When we use FQDN of server as smart host (Linux server) to relay emails we are getting DNS 451 4.4.0 DNS query failed. However when we use IP Address of the server it is working fine. Any idea what could be the issue. Thanks Srini

If I put * in the smart host then mail routing queue keep on increasing. Earlier version of exchange I never faced this problem. Its only coming with Exch 2010. Its DNS issue or some bug in Exchange. If DNS then even if I put my smart host entry in hosts file, still it didn't resolve. Thanks for help.

I don't have Exchange 2012 here so I can't tell you exactly where the setting are, but you have a choice to "Use domain name system (DNS) records to route email automatically", "Route email the the following smart hosts", or "use external DNS Lookup settings on the transport server".

Jul 07, 2009 · Well, it looked liked from here that there might be some issue with the DNS, ran few nslookup tests from the HUB servers itself, and surprisingly the domain and its MX records were resolving fine and i was able to connect to them absolutely fine.Author: Vinay Pal Singh
