Jul 11, 2014 · We had both a side delivery rake and a 4-wheel rake. The wheel rake tends to push the hay and the side delivery rolls the hay. Dad liked the side delivery rake better because the rolled (twisted) windrow was easier to pick up with the baler.

I really like it but it is a learning curve compared to our bar rake.Our wheel rake has springs on each wheel so they will float with the ground it also is high clearance in the rear frame so it will not plug with hay.

Jun 19, 2010 · Bar rakes are slow and tend to wrap or rope the hay up and makes it that much harder to get dry. I love my wheel rake but can't comment on a rotary rake as I've never used one. If the 5 wheel rake is three point I'd stay away from it. Really hard to rake a straight row or do corners when the rake moves the opposite direction of the tractor.
