Wanted to know what you guys feel is appropriate amount of time to remove a stock clutch and install a SB Dual Disk. in a 06 3500. I was quoted 10 hrs to RR the clutch and install new hydro system + 1 hr to RR the rear main seal. they also quoted .5 hrs for Rear transfer case seal No mention of replacing oil So 11.5 hrs total.

ahh, the ways of the mechanic. thats how they get paid well, there are set labor rates for certain jobs, and a good mechanic (read: well paid) will get it done in half the time quoted. it takes me 1.5 hours to swap a clutch, from parking to starting again. I'm too old for this ****... Save.

I had my wife's Caliber in the dealers shop about a mont ago on a tire issue and I asked my guy about clutch replacement. If I recall correctly the 'stock' clutch was about $900. Just for the clutch. He was a bit shocked at the price. You'll likely be into it for 1500-1700 to get it done correct at the dealer..

With a clutch job, the tranny and engine get separated and then you have to take all the tin off for power coating, pressure wash the crude off the tranny and engine, and if you are lucky, you won't have to reseal the case.. But most shops charge 4 hrs just for an engine drop/install.
