The Raid Pyrenean is a ‘must-do’ ride for any road cycling enthusiast. In the 1950’s the Cyclo Club Béarnais were looking for a challenge, so they created a route across the Pyrenees, keeping as close to the Spanish border as possible (on surfaced roads!). The first is the Randonneur Raid. This is 720 km, 11,000 metres of climbing and 18 mountain passes in less than 100 hours. This includes the big Tour de France names such as Tourmalet, Aspin and Aubisque. Most people do it this way by signing up to a tour company who transport luggage, arrange food and accommodation, and provide mechanical support.
