When I clicked the Cancel items button on my already shipped order, I’m guessing Amazon contacted UPS and told them to send the package back to Amazon.

Dec 23, 2014 · The problem with refusing delivery is that it could take several weeks to finally drift back to the sender. The only items with a lower priority than media mail are undeliverable, refused, and postage due returns. Since there is no tracking on the returning package its progress is unknown by both buyer and seller.

Nov 30, 2015 · Amazon has a deal worked out with UPS that their shipping fees are quite nominal. Instead of refusing delivery, just request a refund for returning it. Choose the option that has free UPS pickup (this is recent, may be seasonal, usually that's for a charge, but dropoff is free), and they will come -- no need for anything but being there when UPS shows up with their own label to return it.

Dec 05, 2013 · Amazon won't charge returns for defective or wrong item, but they always charge me for ordering the wrong item and/or not wanting the item anymore after receiving the package. I have been charged for returning an item the next day. To OP, refuse the package if you don't want shipping charge for return.

Another snag with refusing delivery is that you need to be in to do it. A while ago I tried to cancel an order and was told by Amazon to refuse delivery because the item was about to be dispatched and couldn't be cancelled. The courier attempted delivery when I was out and delivered the item to my neighbour so I ended up having to return it anyway.
