Jun 04, 2012 · I have some items to return to a freepost address for a refund, the company suggests just getting a proof of posting, I however would like some kind of proof of delivery. Can you send an item to a freepost address by recorded delivery? In my eyes it should just be a case of paying for the recorded part, around 75p IIRC but you know how strange ...

Aug 08, 2012 · The recipient pays the postage (hence Freepost for the sender) If the sender decided that he/she wants proof of postage in the form of recorded delivery the sender pays the recorded delivery fee only. As the actual postage is being paid by the recipient then there is no need for the Post office to ask the sender to pay postage + RD.

Jun 05, 2009 · My wife took the package to the local post office and instead of charging the £0.73 for the added recorded delivery that envirofone recommend the post office charged the normal small packet price for the weight, I think £1.73 and added the £0.73 for recorded delivery so a total of well over £2.46.

Dec 20, 2017 · Much like with Tracked delivery, you will be sent a receipt when the parcel is delivered. However, Recorded delivery only provides proof of postage - not proof of receiving it - because no one needs to sign for the item. If the parcel is small enough, it will be put through the letter box instead.Author: Josie Griffiths

Special delivery costs more than recorded and I'm not sure it's worth paying the extra, it's usually used for more valuable items. I've known families who have lost out because DWP claimed to not receive it, even if you kept a copy you'd have to fill out the form again and you wouldn't get it backdated to the original application.
