A team of phlebotomists (people who collect your blood) works from 6:30am - 9:30am, seven days a week to complete the morning run of inpatient collections at all sites of the QEII. These collections are booked ahead of time by requisitions being sent to Central Accessioning (laboratory receiving area) at the appropriate site the night before the collection is required.

Blood tests (phlebotomy) are available at the New QEII on the ground floor next to the Urgent Care Centre. Blood test appointments, requested by GPs, should now be booked online. This is to help maximise the number of appointments we can offer to patients, minimise queues and continue to maintain social distancing in waiting areas.

Weekend hours at the QEII outpatient laboratory will remain the same, with the lab open on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The lab offers a comprehensive range of routine and specialized lab testing including blood and body fluid sample collection, biochemistry and toxicology, as well as urinalysis, and hematology.
