Prior to today, Prospect Park’s East Drive had been open to traffic during weekday morning rush hour, between 7 and 9 am. The summer car-free trial proved popular with the park’s walkers, joggers, and cyclists, who during peak season, outnumber cars during morning rush hours by 1,000 to just 300.

Traffic around the park is not bad at all and banning it from the park all together would be great. I think people enjoy the park all hours of the day (including 8am) and the hours that the park is open to traffic in the evening are some of the most used by bike riders and runners. There is really no reason for cars to be in the park.
