Borrowing Library Materials The Branch Library at the City of Lowell Senior Center houses a general recreational reading collection for seniors and the general public. Residents may borrow library materials at the branch using their Pollard Library card. Library cards may be obtained at the Main Library on 401 Merrimack Street, next to City Hall.

Pollard Memorial Library Lowell's public library was founded on May 20, 1844 by an enactment of the Lowell City Council. At the time, the idea of "free" public libraries supported solely by municipalities was a relatively new one, but the leaders of Lowell clearly believed in the idea of investing in the betterment of its citizens.

The Pollard Memorial Library has a collection of materials designed for our basic literacy and ESOL students. It is called the New Reader collection and is located on the Second Floor of the library. Students on our waiting list are welcome to borrow materials from this collection while they wait for a tutor.

The Pollard Memorial Library’s collection has grown from the 3,500 volumes held in collection when it was opened in 1844, to today’s collection of approximately 240,408 volumes, plus videos, CDs, DVDs, microfilm collections and museum passes. The Pollard Memorial Library is also a proud member of the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium.
