I'm a current scribe with PhysAssist and I kind of hate it. First 300 hours I was paid 7.25 an hour, now up to 9.25 or so. 80% of the docs I work with suck, not friendly at all and can be just plain rude. There are some cool ones who actually acknowledge my existence and take an interest in getting to know me which is refreshing.

Only hours that you spend on your own after trainging count. So it's really more like a 350 hour residency. - Your hours are also very incosistent. As a full time scribe, Physassist initially told me that I would get somewhere between 20-24 shifts per month. In reality I have never been scheduled for more than 16 shifts per month.

This job is fast paced and demanding, but incredibly rewarding. One learns medical terminology and an understanding of the ED. Also, one is exposed to the fast paced nature of the ED.

My shifts were 10 hours each, and I worked approx 20-30 hours per week. The job was challenging and fast-paced, and really taught me how an ER functions. I made some great friends through PhysAssist, and my coworkers made scribing very enjoyable. However, the pay is extremely low and not livable considering rent prices in DFW.

This job is very fast-paced and the doctors expect much more than scribes are equipped with during training. The training process is extremely cumbersome, often taking up 5-8 hours of the day for 2 weeks, and does not align with the reality of this job's responsibilities.

Another factor contributing to this decision is the overly lengthy raise period; scribes must work 4 months earning minimum wage ($7.25 in Knoxville) before getting a meager raise which was around the time I burned out and decided to stop working with PhysAssist.
