The hike itself takes about 2 hours up and 2 hours down at a moderate pace. It is not a long hike and there are rest stops 1/4 way up, half way up and 3/4 way up. The difficult part of the hike is that the trail consists very little of flat prepared path. Most of it consists of boulders or rough steps made from wood and tree roots.

Climbing the Pitons is without a doubt one of the best things to do while in Saint Lucia. A vast majority of visitors climb Gros Piton and not the more challenging Petit Piton.. Reviewed February 18, 2009. I had a great hike up the Petit Piton with the assistance of a helpful and patient local guide, Gaegrie (sp). This is a fairly challenging 2-hour hike with some portions that require you to hoist yourself up ropes and through some fairly narrow crevices. The descent is even harder - by the time I got to the bottom my legs were noodles.
