The PCSM scoring algorithm was updated in 2013. The new algorithm is sometimes called “PCSM 2.0”. The older algorithm appeared to weigh AFOQT scores and TBAS (or BAT) performance fairly heavily but flight hours lightly. Flight hours could add up to 10 points (at the 201+ hour mark) to a PCSM 1.0 score.

The brackets are 1-5 hours, 6-10, 11-20, 21-40, 41-60, 61-80, 81-100, 101-200, 201+. An example would be if you scored 50 PCSM with zero flight hours, adding 1 flight hour would bump you up to 54, 21 flight hours would give you 66. I got picked up with 0 hours, but that was just before the PCSM 2.0 was introduced. Most people I talked to before getting a pilot slot said that a good number of hours to get is around 40 and getting your PPL if possible. Most people don't have any hours though. Of the 7 people that were selected for pilot at my det, none of them had flying hours.

2 years ago · edited 2 years ago. My PCSM was 66 with 0 flight hours if I recall correctly, with a 94 on my pilot section. Be sure to get a REALLY good night's sleep the night before your TBAS and minimize the cognitive tasks you're doing the day of.

I have 0 hours and I received a 90 PCSM. My friend had a 91 PCSM and he had over 200 hours (69 on Pilot-AFOQT). What does this tell you? Hours doesn't mean as much as you think. However, there is a twist to this. As many know, the PCSM is compiled of three items: the AFOQT (Pilot Section), Flight Hours, and the TBAS.

Hello, I have taken the AFOQT and TBAS. My AFOQT scores were 90/89/87/93/72.My PCSM was 65. I have, 2 flight hours (intro flights - was in a tough spot financially for awhile but wanting to go back and do more).
