After reading the Pandora FAQ that "Demo" directed me to, I found the reason why it closes. Pandora wants to make sure that they're not paying royalties for songs you're not listening to. If you don't consistently give a thumbs up or down a message pops up asking if you're still listening. If you don't respond Pandora turns off.
