Avoid the $6 entrance fee for Oval Beach and have an adventure by parking in downtown Saugatuck, taking the Chain Ferry across Kalamazoo Lake ($1 per person), visiting the museum (free - hours are noon to 4pm), and then climbing the 300 stairs to the top of "Mount Baldy" or more correctly, Baldhead Mountain.

There is a $10 fee to park at the beach. We noticed that the attendant left about 8:30 pm. Not sure if that's a regular thing or not. But if you're going to the beach for sunset only it would be worth it to wait until after 8:30 pm. Park closes at 10 pm. I would definitely visit Oval Beach again.
