Cell C1 contains the formula =B1-A1, which returns the difference between the times (which gives me the duration of an event). Instead of C1 being the exact duration, I want it to be the duration minus 1 hour and 45 minutes. I have tried =B1-A1-1:45, =B1-A1-01:45, and =B1-A1-1.75 but none of these work. How can this be accomplished?

To calculate elapsed time, you will need to supply both the day number and the time for the train's departure and arrival. In this case, Paris to Istanbul, you should enter formula =1+"19:40" in A2 and formula =4+"06:56" in B2. Times are entered within quotes in your locale's standard format, which for me in the United States, is HH:MM. Then the elapsed time is the …

Note that DAYS does not count the first day of the period, but NETWORKDAYS does. DAYS is not portable to Excel. DAYS really does return enddate - startdate; thus if either date has a time component (for example "2008-01-03T15:15"), the number of days returned may not be integer. To ensure an integer result, consider INT (DAYS ()) .

You can not simply change the format of the cell to provide the number of days. What ANY spreadsheet does is refer dates to a Zero time (in the case of Calc the default is 30-12-1899 00:00:00), so when you subtract two dates, you get the …

This is quite a tricky question. I'm trying to sum the hours and minutes in a column. I need it to show either in the format [HH]:MM (hours:minutes) or DD HH:MM (days hours:minutes).. I've tried the =SUM() function but it work well. It shows as 04:30, instead of the real value. I've also tried other tricks (like other formats) and even some custom functions.
