For a task that takes 8 hrs I simple add : Hrs 08 to the tasks name (obviously change 08 to whatever your duration is. I then export the plan to excel and in a column I add the formula =RIGHT ( [cell with task name],2)+0 eg =RIGHT (B2,2)+0. the +0 removes a weird error that stops the SUM formula from working.

OpenProj currently only supports days. Not entirely true. Duration displays in days, but Work displays in hours. Just right-click on the column headers and choose "Insert column...", then choose "Work" from the bottom of the list. One other thing: Duration is based on the number of hours set for a working day.

I just tested and was able to see hours with Work. I entered a duration of 3 hrs and it shows as .375 days in the duration column but 3 hrs in the work column. It seemed fine with detailed (indented) tasks.

To add a column in Project, simply right-click on a column heading and choose Insert Column. Here I have added Work to the Entry table next to Duration. Now if you skip over the Duration, set Work, then assign a resource, Project calculates Duration. Here I typed in 24 hours of work which Project estimated as 3 days’ duration when I assigned Bob.
