The amount of time PRN nurses work each week can vary from zero to over 40 hours a week, unlike full-time nurses who generally work about 40 hours each week. PRNs are similar to freelance or temporary workers, which means they can work as many or as few days as they choose.

Our Per Diem Nursing Team specializes in nurses like you! One of the most intriguing aspects of per diem nursing is that you get to choose when you want to work. As a per diem nurse, you are expected to work a minimum of four shifts per month. However, you can always decide to pick up more shifts and work on a part-time or even full-time basis - the choice is yours!

Jul 21, 2016. No law that I know of, but most facilities have a minimum that you have to be available for. My last per diem job had two levels -- one required 7+ shifts per 6 weeks, with 1+ weekend shift per 6 weeks, and 1 major and 1 minor holiday per year. The 2nd option was 3+ shifts per 6 weeks. Option 1 got a $4/hr differential.

It depends on the facility, but a PRN nurse can work between 0 hours and over 40 hours a week. Why do PRN nurses make more money? PRN nurses make more money than staff nurses because they don’t have the employment benefits (for example, paid time-off and health insurance) that full-time staff have.
