We eagerly planned a visit to Nicodemus as the sole remaining settlement of freed Black American slaves. It is a testament to the courage and hope of the people moving to the middle of nowhere to begin a new life. And the Park Service has done a good job depicting the attraction, struggle, rise and unfortunately decline of the Nicodemus community.
