Mike explained how the winery came to be, the founder, winemaker and owner is Deepak Gulrajani. Deepak was born in India and came to California in 1988 for a job in computers. He started winemaking in his garage 1990s. He planted his first vines in 1995 on the 40 acre vineyard and he has been making wine for Nicholson Ranch since 2009.

Nicholson ranch its perfect. It has a wonderful view, the staff is absolutely top notch and at the wine marvelous. It was welcoming and relaxing. The tasting room is very laid-back, open, airy, with room to stretch. Perfect for people who had been driving for hours. We particularly wanted to thank our guide in our wine tour, Mike.

Nicholson Ranch vineyards were first planted in 1995 on land that was a former cattle ranch. Deepak Gulrajani planted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Syrah over the next three years. The estate vineyards are planted on the southern tip of the Mayacamas Range where volcanic slopes meet marine sedimentary soils.
