May 02, 2007 · The technology used by O2 for SMS delivery hasn't really been updated since its introduction in 1997. Other networks have updated their platforms so that delivery reports can be configured via handset menus. Cheers Mark

Your confusing several things. It was O2's 3G network which was overloaded. Delivery reports and text messaging were set up in the 2G GSM days. O2 actually have the best 2G network. The answer has already been given by several of us, its an add-on that doesn't work 100% and causes problems with some phones, so O2 don't implement it.

Posted by Sammy_boy Yep, for some reason O2 have decided not to implement delivery reports, except for the *0# trick. I suspect that using delivery reports costs networks a small amount of money, as it involves sending either a text or message back to the sender, and O2 have decided not to spend this small amount on something that is actually quite a useful feature, skinflints!
