The Munroe Tavern along with the Clark-Hancock House, and the Buckman Tavern are owned by the Lexington Historical Society. It costs $10.00 to visit the Munroe Tavern or $20.00 to visit all three. The Clark-Hancock House is the only one where you must take a guided tout. You visit the two taverns on your own.

Location & Hours. Munroe Tavern is located at 1332 Massachusetts Avenue. In April and May, the tavern is open on weekends from 12 PM - 4 PM. From Memorial Day through October, the tavern is open daily from 12 PM- 4 PM. Tours are self-guided. The last entry is at 4 PM so Guides and Greeters may be on duty until 5 PM.

Munroe Tavern was built in 1735 and temporarily served as a field hospital for the British Army on their retreat back to Boston from Concord on April 19, 1775. Later in 1789, George Washington paid a visit to the Tavern and dined in one of the rooms.

Munroe served as an orderly sergeant in the Lexington militia in 1775. On April 19, 1775, Munroe Tavern was taken over by Brigadier General Earl Percy and one-thousand British soldiers. For one-and-a-half hours, Munroe Tavern was the headquarters for British troops. A bullet hole from April 19, 1775 is still visible in the ceiling of the taproom.
