Assuming the task is Fixed Duration, Project will spread the entered work evenly across the duration. If your need is to see hours per resource per month, that can be shown without having the divide a long task into different months. The Resource Usage view can show total work per resource per day, week, month, year - whatever you need.

Of these total work hours, 8 hours are actual work and 32 hours are remaining work. The timephased fields show this work distributed as 10 hours each for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Remarks If you type a value in the Work field for a task, Project divides the work you enter among the assigned resources.

As you can see, Total work is 56 hours (John 16 + Mary 40), and Duration is 10 days, because Mary will work only 4 hours per day (50%), and that means she will need 10 working days to accomplish this Task. With this approach you will get much more precise estimating! Regards!

When you make multiple resource assignment changes on an Effort Driven task within the same edit session, Microsoft Project calculates work using the following formula: Work = Total Work * (Resource Units/Total Resource Units) For example, if you have a 2-day (2d) duration task where a resource (R1) is assigned 200%, the 2d duration task calculates to 32 hours (32 h) of work.

As you can see, Duration is now 8 days, because Mary has to work 32 hours, and she will work only 4 hours per day (because 50% of her Units), so the Task will have 4 hours per day * 8 days = 32 hours To conclude, if you know exact number of hours that Resources must spend to complete the Task, always use FIXED WORK, and assign those hours for each resources.

For instance we have WBS task #1.1.1. This task has a duration of 7 days and has 10 hours of resources assigned to it. We then baselined the ...
