Military time is very similar to 24 hour time, but there are 2 differences between military time setting and 24 hour time setting. Military time uses a leading zero and doesn't have a colon, while 24 hour time uses a colon but not a leading zero. For example, 8 o'clock AM is shown as 0800 in military and 8:00 in 24 hour time. 8 PM would be 2000 (military) and 20:00 (24 hour).

Both are acceptable. A usage example showing the 12 hour clock vs military time would be a time table showing 4:00 pm to 12:00 midnight. This would be written as 16:00 – 24:00. Another example highlighting the difference between the two would be to show that 10:15 am is written as 10:15 in military time but 2:30 pm is written as 14:30.

Military time is based on a 24-hour clock beginning at midnight (0000 hours) and ends at 2359 hours. Military time format eliminates the need for using A.M. and P.M. designations as regular time uses numbers 1 to 12 to identify the hours in a day. In Military Time 12 P.M. is 1200 hours, 1 P.M. is 1300 hours up until 11 P.M where it is 2300 hours.
