The Mercer Caverns was a nice break from the summer heat and since Yosemite was closed all week for fires it was a good escape from the smoke that filled the mountains. We had read some reviews about the guides being less-than-friendly, but our experience (with James as our guide) was just the opposite.

I have now been to all 4 of the major caverns of the Sierras in Northern California - Moaning, Mercer, California, and Black Chasm. Mercer Caverns is the most interesting with the most beautiful intact formations.
