Use of McKee-Beshers WMA is permitted seven days a week throughout the year. Vehicle access is via marked parking areas located on River Road, Hunting Quarter Road and Sycamore Landing Road. Prime bloom time for sunflowers is mid-July through early August. Hunting is allowed in accordance with statewide open season dates and shooting hours.

Tips for Viewing the Sunflower Fields at McKee-Beshers WMA. Get there early! No specific hours are posted anywhere I can find, but most natural areas are open from dawn to dusk. Bring a ladder if you want to take pictures from a different prospective.

There’s at least one happy upside to that scorching sun—sunflowers. At the McKee-Beshers Wildlife Management Area in Poolesville, Maryland, about an hour drive from DC, 30 acres of sunflowers are in bloom.
