If you have more time, McGee Creek offers access to the John Muir wilderness and Steelhead, Genevieve, Big McGee, Hilton, and Davis lakes are all excellent destinations. Red's Meadows Pack Station and the Minarets offer perhaps the best scenery in the Sierras, but the service just doesn't compete with McGee.

Saturday morning, August 28, 1976 we left at 6 a.m. and picked up Marty, Randy and Stan in Independence. We drove to the Pine Creek pack station, leaving the food for the second week with the packer and parking Gil and Stan's cars; then on to McGee Creek where we hit the trail about 10 a.m. We had a pleasant hike to Steelhead Lake (5.5 miles).
