The map said it would take 2.5 hours (for 6 miles), but we ended up completing it in about 2 hours at a moderate pace. This trail goes along the shore line, so it was nice and breezy for a lot of it! I liked that it was more of a nature walk with a very well-marked path! Just be prepared for a lot of bug swatting.

Mashomack Preserve has updated trail hours for November and December. The trails are now open six days a week from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed on Tuesdays. The Visitor Center and restrooms are temporarily closed.

The Mashomack preserve located on Shelter Island is very well maintained and offers an indoor exhibit as well. There is information and markers along the many trails which is so helpful. I recommend hopping on the ferry to shelter island and enjoying mother nature !
