Well the ferry only operates every hour on the hour after 6 pm. So, if sunset is at 7:30 you would miss seeing it from the ferry. Also, if you go to the other side of the river after 5 pm most shops are closed. The one positive of the ride is that you get a beautiful view of the Chateau and Old Quebec.

There is a pay parking lot right next to the ferry terminal on the Levis, side. using google maps you can see it and you can see the pay station. Also using google maps, a great travelling tool, you can see a bike rack in front of the terminal to the left of the ice cream place.
