The edge of the placenta needs to be a minimum of 2.5 cm away from the internal os (internal opening of cervix into uterus). So I'm not sure how far away it is right now but it has to be closer than 2.5 cm to be reported as a low-lying placenta. When it's less than 2.5 cm from the cervix, the risk of hemorrhaging during labour is much much greater.

Sep 08, 2018 · Don’t worry; there’s a very high chance that a low lying placenta will no longer be a problem when you have your third trimester scan. “My placenta was low lying (15mm or 1.5cms) at 20 weeks. A repeat scan at 27 weeks showed that it had moved to 40mm (4cms), and at the birth it became a retained placenta (wouldn’t come out).
