Posted July 9, 2018. fYI, I dont know if it helps but my 2 cents worth. I purchased a 2016 kx250f new. Rebuilt top end at 110 hours. The piston was in good condition and compression was great. The valves were tight and needed reshimmed so I changed out the piston and rings while I had the head off to change shims. 2.

Good thing that's not a KX250f (or 450) you're riding otherwise you'd be replacing a lot of pistons at 15hrs by following the Kawi service manual. At least you would be saving money by only changing the oil when you replace a top end.

30-40hrs on a 250f and around 50hrs on a 450, iv broken many bikes, and i would say these hours are the best to make sure you get the most out of a piston knowing it will not crack or shatter. Don't listen to anyone else saying you could get 70 80 90 hours out of it, its not worth it.
