Hours of Operation. Our taste, tour, and shop facility is open May-September from 10am-6pm daily. Summer of 2021 we may close on Tuesdays. We can be reached year-round at our Palmer kitchen and office; 907-373-1309. You can also find us at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer in August. Kahiltna Birchworks began soon after Dulce and Michael met in 1988 when they were both working as field technicians for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. In 1980, Michael had staked a remote homestead in Alaska’s Susitna Valley, and it soon lured the couple to a new life at Quiet Lake, 30 miles off Alaska’s road system.
