One doctor reported working an unbroken 76-hour shift, alongside others who endured shifts of between 53 and 72 hours. Junior doctors were seriously affected, often working long hours as well as trying to balance study and exams with the continual demands of learning on the job in high pressure circumstances, placing them at high risk of mental and physical exhaustion.
