Newborns need 14 to 17 hours of sleep a day (8 hours during the day and 8 at night) but can’t stay awake longer than 1 to 2 hours at a time and newborn sleep patterns change rapidly. If newborns generally eat, poop, and sleep around the clock in the early days, what does a newborn’s sleep schedule look like?

Baby awake for 7+ hours straight. I'm really worried about my 8 week old daughter. She is really fighting daytime naps to the point of being up now since 2:30pm. It's 9pm here. She has those crazy huge overstimulated eyes and nothing we do seems to calm her (trust me- we've tried it).

Newborns 8 weeks old and under: 45 min – 75 min baby awake time This time should include feeding. 8 weeks old and over: 60 min – 90 min baby awake time If your little one is taking short naps, you might find 60 minutes is a stretch and that’s ok. I would rather you put your baby down more regularly than end up with an overtired infant.

8 week old awake for 12 hours. Haaaalp! My 8 week old daughter has been awake from 7.30am to 8pm and counting. She had a 20 minute nap at 9.00am and then a 40 min sleep at 4.00pm. I then took her for a drive and I'm not sure if she slept but she was quiet so best case scenario another 40min sleep at 6.00pm. I am at my wits end!
