I typically need 10 hours. Then twice a month or so I have longer sleep periods where I sleep 14-22 hours a day for anywhere from 3 days to 10 days. After that I feel more rested. Leading into a long sleep I get increasingly groggy and have impaired cognition and mild aphasia. It’s a very disruptive condition for me.

The best way is gradually reduce ths hours. e.g you sleep 14 hours now reduce to 13.5 hours for 3-4 days, than to 13 hours for next 3-4 days, than 12.5 for 1-2 days and so on till whatever time u want to sleep. But adviced time for sleep is 6-7 hours max.

If OP went to sleep shortly after midnight & slept until nearly 3pm, isn't that slightly less than 13 hours? Midnight to 1am is 1 hour, to 2pm is 2 hours, etc -- noon would be 12 hours -- then 3pm would be 13 hours. So OP didn't sleep over 14 hours. Not that it matters with respect to OP's quandry, but just for the sake of accuracy.

My sleep duration is all over the place, anything from 5 to 15 hours, lately consistently 10+. Sleep latency is a problem for me, it takes me a LONG time to fall asleep, and it always has. Interestingly, when I was taking 15mg Dex I could fall asleep quicker (<10mins) and easier than at any other time in my life. 10mg didn't have this effect.

I just slept for 14 hours by accident. What do I do to sleep well tonight? I woke up at 10am, 12 hours from 10pm which is a very important bedtime target for me.

I got a sleep study. I used to require a 12-14 hours of sleep to feel fully rested. After doing research, I learned I had sleep apnea and a sleep study confirmed it. Getting a CPAP machine fixed my problems and I no longer needed that much sleep. Get a sleep study done. There is an issue with your sleep. Also get bloodwork done.

Personally, I oversleep a lot. Oversleeping can be a sign of depression, stress, or anxiety. I don’t have neither of those and I sleep between 10–14 hours. Yesterday I slept 14. For me this is normal, but you can also contact a doctor, since I’m not a professional.

Although I slept more than 8 hours, I didn't even wake up until 13 had elapsed. I knew I had gotten plenty of sleep by then, but trying to get up was difficult cause I still felt tired. Why does this happen? EDIT: Posted to r/AskScience. Edit for Clarity: I just started a new job a few weeks ago that is graveyard hours.
