Nov 17, 2001 · The COMET study results1 confirm, again, that the use of dilute local anaesthetics with opioids improves labour outcome in pregnant women. This finding, reported by Chestnut and colleagues2 in 1988 has been shown repeatedly. Hence, the American Society of Anesthesiologists' guidelines on obstetric anaesthesia consequently advocate the combination of these drugs for labour analgesia.Author: Donal J Buggy, Naeem Ahmed, Elaine Hart

Nov 17, 2001 · In each group, 84% of woment were nulliparous (parity range 0–3), and median cervical dilation at epidural insertion was 4 cm (range 1–9). Instrumental (forceps or ventouse), but not caesarean, delivery was greatly reduced in the low-dose group.Author: Donal J Buggy, Naeem Ahmed, Elaine Hart

Aug 01, 2004 · Effect of epidural analgesia on labour and outcome. Though women who receive epidural analgesia during labour are more likely to require instrumental or caesarean delivery, there is little evidence to suggest that the epidural itself is to blame.Author: Elizabeth McGrady, Kerry Litchfield
