The people taking 12 credit hours a semester aren’t going to graduate on time. How many credits are too many? Many colleges recommend taking around 15 credits per semester, which totals 120 credits after four years (colleges that run on a unique academic calendar will work slightly differently, but the total number of credits is approximately the same).

12-credit hour internship, field work course, or practicum = approximately 40 contact hours/week or 600 – 750 hours/semester Note: It is recognized that some proposed courses will request contact hours during which a mix of activities are carried out such that no single category (discussion; laboratory; seminar) may seem entirely appropriate.

Each credit hour corresponds to a minimum of 3 hours of student engagement per week for a traditional 14-week course or 6 hours per week for a 7-week course. This time may be spent on discussions, readings and lectures, study and research, and assignments. Most courses at AIC are three credit hours. Credits to be earned.

2) Full credit courses w/o lab (1.0 course weight) = 6 semester hours. 3) Half credit courses w/lab (0.5 course weight) = 4 semester hours. 4) Half credit courses w/o lab (0.5 course weight) = 3 semester hours. Using this information, I would have accumulated 38 semester hours in Fall 2010, and 38 semester hours in Winter 2011.
