Highwic is the first stop on the Waikato War Driving tour taking in sites from this episode (1863–64) of the New Zealand land wars. Buckland & Sons profited from the wars by supplying the Imperial troops with horses and other general supplies. Highwic’s 4-Star Garden of Significance is a wonderland for all ages.

Highwic is a hop and skip from downtown Auckland within the New Market neighborhood. I walked there from the Grafton Bridge. If you follow the MapQuest directions they will get you there. It is open Wed. to Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A small admission price is worth the cost to keep this classic beauty in good repair.
