Headlands beach is managed by the Metro Park system so it is kept fairly clean. Patrolled by park rangers. Plenty of BBQ grills and a walking path the length of the beach between the beach and parking lot. However, if you have small children the better beach is just across the mouth of the Grand River to the east of Headlands.

It is open to the public until a half hour after sunset I believe. There are signs posted when you enter the park and I have never seen the whole beach closed to the public for any reason.
