I was quite happy to send mine off with a 1st Class stamp (I did think about using 2nd class as well ). The woman who served me practically refused to send it unless I paid the £6.22 for Special Delivery.

Remember that recorded delivery doesn't guarantee someone will receive it in time, for emergencies you should send it next day guaranteed at one of their rates. They are around £3.50 I think but from experience guaranteed are much more reliable.
