For the record: Parking is a headache for the Griffith Observatory (come early). The road leading up to the Observatory lacks railing in some places (be careful hiking up or down it). For the 4th of July, to view fireworks everyone had to hike the Observatory trail to see them (bring a flashlight if you plan to come on the 4th).

No permit is required to hike to Griffith Observatory and visiting Griffith Park is free, so get out and enjoy! To get to the trailhead: From Interstate 5, take exit 141 for Los Feliz Boulevard. Go west on Los Feliz Boulevard for 2.4 miles. Turn right up Fern Dell Drive and drive 0.4 miles into Griffith Park.
