Personally I vary between 8:30am - 5:30pm and 10am - 7pm. I have found it much more pleasant to start earlier - it is just too hard to get out of bed sometimes :) Additionally, when it comes to holidays, at previous workplaces it was common sense to request holidays from your manager, but not so much at Google.
