Hours & Admission. Thank you for your interest in learning about The Whale Museum. Our hours are 10:00 am - 4:00 pm every day. Please be aware that wearing a face covering is required inside of the museum building during your visit. If you are planning on visiting the museum as a group we do offer a schedule around our open hours.
The Whale Museum, located in beautiful Friday Harbor, Washington, opened to the public in 1979 as the first museum in the country devoted to a species living in the wild. Today, our museum continues to promote stewardship of whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem through education and research.

The Whale Museum has a new skin, and the whole town of Friday Harbor got to watch it happen. Painter Lindsay Carron spent just three days in the summer of 2016 painting "For the Orcas," a mural along the whole west side of the museum. Huge orca whales swim across the shiplap siding, through kelp forests, foraging for Chinook salmon.

Friday Harbor is the main town on San Juan Island, which is served by ferry from Anacortes, several private craft, and three air carriers.
