This fortress is the smallest of the 40 or so fortresses Switzerland built in the Alps during WWII. It was free with my Swiss Travel Pass. The man at the desk gave me an audio guide, and a brochure with a map. The first tunnels into the mountain were very wet, cold, and dark. Further in it became drier, but still cold.

Fortress Fürigen (Festung Fürigen) is still in its original state. Is was built in the Second World War and was operational until 1987. The fortress was built inside the mountains and has a temperature of 10 – 12° troughout the whole year, so warm clothes are recommended.
