I'm a local and rode the old ferris wheel at Navy Pier, and this was my first time riding the newer one. We had an out-of-town friend, so this was a definite tourist attraction for him. But I have to admit, as a local, I probably wouldn't ride it again in the near future. The views are amazing, the ride itself is about 10-15 minutes.

A 79.3 m (260 ft) spokeless Ferris wheel was proposed for Chicago's Navy Pier in 2006. The Shanghai Star, initially planned as a 200-metre (656 ft) tall wheel to be built by 2005, was revised to 170 metres (558 ft), with a completion date set in 2007, but then cancelled in 2006 due to "political incorrectness".
