I just took an ETG urinalysis test. I am slightly nervous, it would be nice to have a sense of relief. I am an active 21 year old female. Sunday around 4pm I drank less then 1/2 of a glass of beer with dinner (roughly 8 oz). Monday, the next day at 6:30pm, over 26 hours later, I was tested. Just in case, I was prepared with a container of fake pee.

Tests can detect relatively low levels (100 ng/ml) of EtG in urine. Even light drinking can create a positive EtG result. The more someone drinks, the more likely it is that an EtG test will show they were drinking. However, tests are likely to show signs of even very light drinking if administered within 12 hours of consuming alcohol.

These amounts of EtG could be due to heavy drinking within three days of the test, light drinking in the past 24 hours, or intense exposure to products containing alcohol recently. Positive EtG levels of less than 500ng/mL are observed as “very low”, and may indicate heavy drinking several days prior or light drinking twelve to 36 hours before.

Sensitivity of urinary EtG for detection of drinking as a function of cut off and time since drinking: Graph shows percent positive for EtG using each of three cut-offs (100, 200 and 500mg/dL) for those who acknowledged their last drinking episode within <24 hours (n = 56), 25 – 48 hours (n = 26), and 49 to72 hours (n = 14) prior to the baseline EtG sample.

Answer (1 of 10): The EtG test is new to me, and other answers are therefore knowledgeable than mine. I found this online: EtG is a direct metabolite of alcohol (ethanol). Its presence in urine may be used to detect recent ethanol ingestion, even after ethanol is no longer measurable. The presenc...

While many of the labs and other sites claim to be able to detect alcohol use for up to 80 hours with EtG - the reality is that the commercially available tests are not that sensitive. This article published in 2007 looked at the actual time till last detection and found that the tests were negative by 26 hours when using lower doses of alcohol http://alcalc.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/reprint/agm014v1
