Aug 11, 2015 · In general most EMT-Basics at my company are scheduled to work four shifts a week. Most medics work 3-4. Shifts for Basics are 12 hours, and medics work a 10 hours shift. When it comes down to it, most people work the extra day so they can get overtime. In General, most Paramedics & EMTs work an average of at least 60 hours a week for one service and many work for multiple services where the combined hours worked per week can routinely exceed 100 hours a week. Most schedules are 24/48 where an employee works for 24 hours and then has 48 hours off.

Well since I’ve been working in EMS it usually can be 3–12’s or you can do 5–8’s or there are 16 hours shifts and even 24 hour shifts. You essentially have to decide how many hours you are trying to work in a week and see if it works for you.

I've worked up to ~84 hours in a row (catching naps when I can). I'd say working as a part time EMT/ medic for flexibility sake is one of the easiest schedules to work around school, depending on the requirements of the company
