There are a number of different off-peak and electrical heating tariffs. Below is a description of our most popular ones. • E7 – If you’re on E7 (also known as Economy 7) your electricity will be charged at two rates. You’ll have a higher day rate, and a cheaper night rate, which applies for seven to nine hours between 8pm and 8am.

If you have an Economy 7 meter installed in your home this means you get charged a lower rate during off-peak times of the day. Here’s how it works: Generally homes are not fitted with Economy 7 meters, and if you want this you’ll have to get your meter changed. The Economy 7 times vary slightly by region, but are generally between 11.30pm and 8.30am each day.

Economy 7 times differ depending on where you live and which energy supplier you're with. For example, the seven off-peak hours might be 11pm to 6am, 12 midnight to 7am, 1am to 8am or even 1.30am until 8.30am.

However, I don't feel that it is good enough from EDF to not specify when the times are. "Your Economy 7 hours vary depending on your meter and the area in which your business operates. You will receive 7 hours at the low night rate between 12.00am and 8.00am." A short sharp phonecall is due to them tomorrow.

If it's any help we have 7hrs of cheaprate electric. It used to be 11.18pm to 6.18am and then 12.18am to 7.18am(GMT or BST whatever). The meter we have now has a clock and is set to come on at 12.30am and go off at 7.30am. The clock is not set correctly, and is 1hr 5m slow(so by our own clocks it goes off at 8.35 am). I was told that it doesn't matter.
